Leading Regional Restoration & Community Stewardship Since 1980
Our Streamkeepers program invites local residents to become the eyes and ears of our watershed. By adopting a reach of their local stream, volunteers help us track water quality and habitat health, providing the essential data needed to guide future restoration efforts.
Our impacts
Become a Guardian of the Basin
Our StreamKeepers program is a grassroots initiative designed for residents who want to take a hands-on role in protecting their home waters. Modeled after regional ‘Stream Teams,’ we empower volunteers to adopt specific reaches of the watershed to monitor water quality and habitat health. By serving as our eyes and ears on the ground, StreamKeepers provide the vital, local data necessary to ensure the Chehalis Basin remains a thriving sanctuary for salmon and trout for generations to come.
01
Water Quality Testing
Perform regular checks for temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen to ensure our local reaches stay within healthy ranges for spawning salmon.
02
Habitat Assessment
Identify and report changes in the stream corridor, from new large woody debris to potential blockages or erosion that could impact fish passage.
03
Biological Monitoring
Document the presence of macroinvertebrates—the "bugs" that salmon eat—which serve as a primary indicator of long-term stream health.
04
Spawner Surveys
Assist in seasonal counts of returning salmonids, providing the raw data that helps our biologists measure the success of regional restoration projects.
